HINTERGEDANKE

We are being a lot stricter this time around, and only those of you that have RSVP'd or have purchased a Sam Hewitt original or printed piece may attend the Private View.
To RSVP, message us here:

As well as original work, throughout the show there will be a selection of Limited Edition Prints available and other goodies that are currently being prepared.
See you at the show!

CHROMA - Group Show June 01 2016

CHROMA
FOUR PAINTERS - NEW WORK
18th - 30th June 2016

Aimee Brigginshaw
May Everett
Kathryn Lang
Sarah Shaw

Derek Jarman’s book, ‘Chroma – a book of colour’ provided the inspiration for the title of this new painting show ‘Chroma’ that brings together the work of four contemporary Brighton painters who each explore and celebrate the fine line between abstraction and figuration, but also, essentially, the emotional properties of both colour and mark making.

Expect both original oils and limited edition fine art prints which evoke something of the place where they live – from the bright lights and dark spaces of Brighton’s sea roads to the barren emptiness of Dungeness beach where Jarman lived and wrote the evocative words that inspired this exhibition…

‘…Constant, colourful, chromatic,
Party coloured and prismatic,
Kaleidoscopic, variegated,
Tattooed, dyed, illuminated,
Daub and scumble, dip and dye,
High keyed colour, colour lie’

‘Chroma’ runs from 18th June to the 30th June
Dynamite Gallery, Trafalgar Street, Brighton
10am to 6pm daily

Iva Troj Solo Exhibition April 03 2016

Fed The Lion

"Though Iva Troj’s paintings share the sensibility and feminine grace present in Renaissance era art, her work is informed by her modern point of view. Growing up in the outskirts of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the now UK-based artist was faced early on with male dominance in a communist country. She often expresses admiration for women artists like Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, whose mere existence was seen as problematic, while men at the time were painting women to look like dolls. “I so wanted to just go in there and change them all,” she says."

Bill Bate January 05 2016

Bill Bate Solo Show

Opening Wednesday 6th January, is Dynamite Gallery's latest solo show featuring the remarkable work of Bill Bate, an artist working in oil on canvas.

Available at the show are eleven original works of art (all oil on canvas) and a small selection of signed limited edition prints, exclusive to Dynamite Gallery.

              Bio:
Bill Bate was born in Liverpool in 1962 and is a graduate in Fine Art from the Central School of Art London (now known as Central Saint Martins). His work focuses on the human form. By the use of dramatic light his atmospheric works are emotional responses to the body in movement, at rest, and the body observed.
“I want the paint to have a life of its own and so leave its application quite loose at times. I endeavour to escape the confines that realism can impose, leaving more expression and less constraint.”

Here is a little interview we did with the artist:
Briefly describe your technique and what mediums you usually work with?
I work in oils, sketching in pencil, charcoal and photography. I work on top of old paintings, working against them, allowing accidents. I also paint on inviolate surfaces with the accidents minimised.

Where are you based and do you feel your surroundings have influenced you?
I have lived in Brighton since 1990 and am completely influenced by it. The light, the spaces and the people are, in combination, my constant muse.

Who are your top three favourite artists?
        David Lynch
        Jeff Koons
        Paul Cezanne
