"I was diagnosed as colourblind in first grade, but it wasn't just a revelation about how I saw the world; it was about how I felt it. Being on the peripheries, forever observing from the outskirts, I've often felt like an outsider looking in, trying to fit in, yet often feeling slightly misfit. This sentiment, this duality of being present yet distanced, saturates my art.
The world has its spectrum; I have mine. It's not just an alternative perception of colour but an alternative perception of being. Every brushstroke, every hunched figure, every gaze directed away or downwards in my art speaks to that in-between space. That liminal space where I, and many others with me, often find ourselves - present, yet somewhat absent, grounded, yet floating.
I often think of Hockney's vivid loneliness, Munch's haunting isolation, and Hopper's introspective solitude. My work also explores these emotional landscapes, albeit painted with my unique palette. The subjects of my pieces are caught mid-fall, mid-life, mid-dream, suspended in time and emotion, seemingly yearning for something just out of reach.
Being a Swede with a tapestry of experiences from Europe to the U.S., and now settled in Amsterdam, I've learned to enjoy the present, that in searching for "home" is to belong to the journey itself.
Bridging the traditional depth of oil painting with innovative digital tools, my art captures the journey of blending past and potential. This isn’t just about merging old and new, I aim to capture these transient moments of being eternally caught in the in-between."
